Overview Details EV Naish, Wilton Wilton, Wiltshire Following the earlier involvement by BrightSpace team members whilst at another practice, BrightSpace appointed to help the client obtain Outline Planning Consent for 60 new houses and apartments on the client’s brownfield and historic industrial site in the heart of Wilton, near Salisbury. The site layout has been derived from: opening up the proposed development to the adjoining public playing field, converting an existing concrete-banked former mill stream into an attractive and publicly accessible riverside walk and wildlife haven, avoiding the creation of rat-run shortcuts within the local road network, and designing the massing and layout of new houses and apartments to reflect the ‘Wilton’ vernacular’. Together with 60 new residential units, the proposals also create approximately 1,500sqft of A1/B1 commercial units, and they will sensitively replace a less than attractive and poorly positioned building in North Street, effectively repairing the street frontage. BrightSpace and the project team had to carefully steer the proposals through the multiple and complex issues of contaminated land, Conservation Area, industrial heritage and Listed Buildings, wildlife & ecological issues, transport and access, and flood risk. BrightSpace were heavily involved in the Flood Risk Assessment process, working closely with the hydrology engineers and the Environment Agency to reach a satisfactory solution in respect of flood risk modelling, flood mitigation and escape in the event of an emergency-level flood event.
