Overview Details Related Surrey Bespoke Home Surrey, UK The site, situated in Surrey, lies within an AONB and benefits from its own ancient woodlands and lake. BrightSpace Architects were appointed to develop a proposal for a new residence within the grounds as well as develop proposals for a new woodland plan and landscape design. The brief was to design a contemporary dwelling that would have connections to its natural surroundings and the lake. The proposed house consists of two storeys located at the plateau of sloping grounds that lead down to the lake. Perimeter stone walls extend from the house to create garden walls, which intentionally conceal the panoramic views of the landscape when approaching the house. Punched openings within the garden walls create framed ‘glimpse’ views. It is once you enter the house that the spectacular views of the grounds open up to the visitor. The ground level of the house is open plan with a double height entrance and dining area. A double-sided fireplace differentiates the different living areas. A series of large sliding doors with the thick stone walls help to link the house with the grounds. Sliding timber shutters have been incorporated to control solar glare. The house has been designed to sit naturally within its surroundings as well as taking advantages of the surrounding vistas. The proposal celebrates natural materials that have been incorporated into the design in a contemporary fashion.
